For 'In the Heights'

 Lights up on a story we all know and lived, 

Where we pick fights and spend our days and nights,

Working for a dream, searching for our soul's theme.

A stroke of happiness, finding the best way to cope

With all the hard work and how to grasp your hope.

I’ve been both a Nina and Vanessa all my life,

With a dream to get out

But too scared to disappoint,

Not knowing if I’m allowed to make mistakes,

Ready to make everyone proud and do whatever it takes.

Who’ll teach me to be proud like Daniela,

And have Sonny’s care?

I don’t even dare to win fair and square

Unless I fight as hard as Benny for my love

And tie my patience to a flying dove.

Still young, scrappy, with a whole life ahead,

I hear Usnavi’s song to never forget

To dream, love, believe and never regret

What in life's lottery I’m gonna get.

In a story where nothing seems to fit,

Where reality and cold truths don’t hesitate to hit,

Those who care and love you,

Will not, ever, fail you.

Struck by a chance of luck,

Ready to tell the world they’re not powerless and invisible,

All these heroes showed us, anyone, no matter what, is beautiful.

I’m not ever stepping back,

It’s scary, but we’re on the right track.

Real heroes tell the stories that were never told.

“Be brave, be you, be proud, be bold.

Making the world better is free.”

That’s what ‘In the Heights’ has taught me.
